Maharashtra was officially formed in 2020 by Mr. Sanjay Bansode (Chairman)
and Kiran Adagale (Chief Secretary) to promote and publicize a rare sport of Maharashtra. But the work for this has been going on since 2010. This sport has its existence in rural areas of Maharashtra and being practiced during festival. Sanjay and Kiran sir came up with a vision to promote this sport across
Maharashtra and actively working towards it in 32 districts and 5 different states of India, apart from Maharashtra (Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Gujrat)

Mardani khel has a history that dates long back, but recently we have seen it’s rise to prominence during the rise of Maratha empire. Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj used the talent of local people to build a defense force that was agile and unstoppable using the great gurilla tactics. Apart from the weapons like Sword, spear they used locally built and modified weapons like dandapatta (gauntlet sword), Urumi, gofana (sling)…. These skills were nurtured and utilized by most of the Maratha kings post Chhatrapati Shivaji. In those days these skills were promoted as sports in the schools and during festivals. This was a good way to keep the people healthy
